Super stoked on this new tattoo Cris did on my bicep from his newest flash. Not the best photo (my apologies), but a brilliant and conceptual tattoo I really wanted to share. So stoked to have this, and so excited to get more work done by Cris now that we are living in New York… [...]

Cris Cleen, ultra-talented artist and tattooer recently did some beautiful erotic-themed ink on comedian Margaret Cho. Cho writes an absolutely lovely description of Cris’ work and her desire to get tattooed by him. I was super stoked she mentions the short documentary I shot on Cris, and thought this was so cool that it resonated [...]

Absolutely mental article about this woman who decided to go and tattoo “Drake” on her forehead. If you don’t know already, Drake is a really awful hip hop dude and R&B singer. Kevin Campbell, the tattoo artist from the LA shop Will Rise did her work. Good luck with your life hun… Hopefully you can [...]

Found and watched this very depressing movie yesterday about the evolution and symbolism of Russian criminal tattoos entitled “The Mark of Cain.” They really treat their prisoners horribly over there, some scenes are difficult to watch. Also found out about this book called “Siberian Education” written by Nicolai Lilin, about a man’s autobiography growing up [...]

The last Grime episode (part three) airs on VBS.TV. This episode explores the “The Grime Style” and his well-roundnesses as an artist, and ability to flip different styles into something cohesive. The film also delves into originality and Grime’s feelings surrounding his self-expression.

Just watched this movie tonight entitled “Zardoz” directed by John Boorman from 1974. Really “out there” film, but worth checking out. I liked the cinemtography, lots of mirrors and tripped out projections. Also has Sean Connery as the main character, who I am a big fan of. Reminded me a bit of Holy Mountain or [...]

VBS follows Grime into his home, pissing him off and making him feel self-conscious by rifling though his garage and personal life. Very cool seeing his skate collection and memoirs of his early life.

Just launched a movie on brilliant tattoo artist and painter Cris Cleen. Took me quite a while to wrap this project up, but I think it came out pretty nice for my first foray into documentary film making, and I learned so much from pre-production, to audio mixing to color correction, editing and not being [...]

VBS Documentary on SF Tattooer Grime Monster and his shop Skull and Sword, which has a cheeky web site worth checking out. In the first installment of Grime’s series we hear from tattoo luminaries, Civ and Chris O’Donnell, as they try to put in perspective how revered and unique Grime’s style is. We meet the [...]

VBS’s “Tattoo Age” is doing an upcoming feature on world famous Bay Area tattoo artist Grime, which should be super cool. Also realized yesterday, while browsing some tattoo magazines, that there’s a pretty amazing Grime book out as well, entitled “Iron Will.” You can buy it on grimemonster.com ‘Iron Will’, the second self published book [...]

Really great article about artist and tattoo artist extraordinaire over at Pas Un Auture. I think they did such a great job in capturing Cris’ sensibilties, and I love the writing and conclusion. Check it out, well worth a read. The ubiquitous proliferation of tattoos in today’s mainstream culture has peeled away all but every [...]

Recently got this dagger by Cris Cleen over at Idle Hand. As usual, super stoked on the craftsmanship and attention to detail. He did this really fast, I think it was like an hour and half to two hours. Cris also did the owl chest piece I have.
