How to find great Pins for Pinterest – a Pinterest Hack

Pinterest is a great tool for curating visual information, empowering people to form valuable mental connections between groups of related, and unrelated images in a central space.

What I really find fascinating about Pinterest is the images are already curated and filtered by human beings and friends within your social network, rather than a web crawler. In my opinion, this blows the lid off Google and Bing image searches in some respect, since the results are born from a collective intelligence. Pinterest creates tribes of like-minded visual hoarders who band together and share information casually.

This is a little hack I found by accident on Pinterest (maybe others have discovered this also…). In this simple technique, I will show you how to find pins by a site-specific URL. All it requires is to type a little text in your URL bar:

Example:
www.pinterest.com/source/{type in URL}

Working Example:
www.pinterest.com/source/boingboing.net

The great thing about this technique is it will filter the site into an image feed by source (a targeted web site), which might let you find topic of interest that cuts through the feed clutter of applications like Google Reader. Some blogs can publish hundreds of articles a day, so it’s easy to lose track and overlook information. Try it out on some of your favorite web sites, I think it’s really fun to see what people are pinning from specific sources.

This technique also lets you double filter, and find and follow other pinners who share similar sensibilities. I’m a Pinterest newbie, but you can follow my pins here.

If you run a blog, you can employ this technique to see who is pinning things from your site – another interesting set of data to target your writing, and find new audiences potentially.

Just launched a movie on brilliant tattoo artist and painter Cris Cleen. Took me quite a while to wrap this project up, but I think it came out pretty nice for my first foray into documentary film making, and I learned so much from pre-production, to audio mixing to color correction, editing and not being too critical on yourself.

The film was shot in Oakland, Idle Hand Tattoo in Lower Haight, and some at Saved Tattoo in Brooklyn. All shot on a Canon 5D. Hope you enjoy. Will have to come up with a new creative project now to avoid Idle Hands – maybe a job?? Help a brother out and pass it around.

“Gulp” – World’s Largest Stop Motion Film

Really nice stuff as part of Nokia’s ongoing brand content channel “Nokia HD.” Ad agency: “What if we hire a bunch of artists and make record breaking stop motion films with a 12 mega pixel camera so consumers will realize Nokia still makes phones and is a visionary brand?” Via Design Boom.

‘gulp’, a short film created by sumo science at aardman, has broken a world record for the ‘largest stop-motion animation’. completely shot using a 12-megapixel cellphone camera on a nokia N8, the project was set on 11,000 m2 of sand on south wales’ pendine beach. props include a full-scale boat and a rain-jacket clad actor to tell a harrowing episode of a fisherman’s time at sea.

the short involved a large team that raked and smoothed out patterns on the sand to create a seascape–and the inside of a whale’s belly–when viewed from above. shot from a large crane overhead, the images were then compiled to run at 25 frames per second to create the stop-motion effect.

Cool looking footage, but diesel? Lol…let’s inspirational film people in a war ravaged country and then sell really high priced jeans to rich people who care more about the way they look, then the way the children look that made the jeans. Prime example of brand content the wrong way.

World’s Smallest Stop Motion Film – Dot

Here we have the world’s smallest stop motion film ever created (confirmed by Guinness) using a Nokia N8 camera with an attached cell scope microscope, which is essentially a peripheral third world countries can use to magnify blood cells.

The characters in this movie were so tiny, they were created by a 3D painter, and painted under a microscope. It’s a lot of technology to create something that looks low-fi. This is also a commercial for Nokia. This movie is a smaller component of their new campaign “it’s not technology, it’s what you do with it” – see the commercial at very bottom. I recommend watching the making of, before the actual film. The film is made by Aardman, the same guys who animate Wallace and Grommit.

Adidas Brand Content – Noel Gallagher and Ian Brown for Adidas Originals and a host of “Others”

Brand content is the theme of the day! This time it’s for Adidas Originals featuring Ian Brown from the Stone Roses and Noel Gallagher for Oasis. I like to see how the two brands (Nike / Adidas) try to position their merchandise without being overtly open that it’s essentially a TV commercial to sell their goods.

In the case of Adidas originals, they have the whole European thing going for them with the jumpers / trainers / football / world cup cultural tie in, and the whole “A” “Dee” “Das” annunciation. I like the part where Noel says “there’s no gimmicks with Adidas shoes, they’re the most comfortable shoes.” Personally Adidas hurt my feet – too narrow, but don’t take my word it, you should wear them because Ian and Noel say they are good! Apparently Adidas is also doing a whole series on some really main stream personalities.

Nike Brand Content – documentary on street artist Nunca

Nike Sportswear releases a short documentary on Brazilian artist Nunca and his interpretation of the Sao Paulo maze, shot by Italian Director Marco Mucig. Reminds me a bit of some of the stuff we shot for Sagatiba.

Stills from “I’m Here” and Interactive Review

Yesterday we sat down and got a chance to watch “I’m Here.” The whole experience was a cinematic event, right down to the concierge handing you a press laminate with your Facebook photo and being able to sit in your seat and watch the audience enter and leave.

In the middle of the movie, we actually got disconnected from the experience, and had to go back to the site. We were almost certain we’d have to wait another four hours for the next showtime. Luckily, we were able to get back in which was interesting, because the whole event is “limited edition.” There are a certain number of “seats” or video streams, and once they are taken up by other users, you need to wait for the next show time because the theater is full.

About the film ~ just beautiful. I won’t give away details here, but there are some stills below if you are really curious and want a sneak peek. When the film is done, the curtains close and you take a quick look at a wall populated by Facebook polaroids of people who have also seen the film. Kudos to Chiat and Absolut for a fantastic experience.
