Warning – NSFW. Kickstarter project by woman photographer Barbara Nitke about the Golden Age of Pornography. Looks like an interesting narrative, she seems quirky and very New York in the Kickstarter film. Kickstart project here. It’s hard to imagine now, but in 1982 when I started working on porn movies, we shot real 35mm film [...]

Whistling, guitar plucking and cold wave from Belgium c. 1981. Reminds me of Serge Gainsbourg and also Sonic Youth in a somewhat abstract way. Would love to walk around in Paris listening to this. Believe this would be a great track for some cinematic applications.

It’s hot, it’s sensuous. It’s the new dance show, and it’s from Detroit. You got to feel it to see it. Check the other post we wrote for more info on the show.

New documentary trailer on the legendary Bones Brigade. I remember seeing the Bones Brigade in the 80s and it was like the best thing ever – these guys were our idols. The film premieres this week at Sundance.

Dragon’s Lair was a video arcade game from 1983 by Cinematronics which featured beautiful graphics by ex-Disney animator Don Bluth. Seeing this machine as a child was pretty much the most amazing, magical experience – the holy grail of the arcade. I wanted this machine in my house so, so badly and used to have [...]

Track is silly good. Really enjoy this so much with the Giorgio Miroder style piano lick. Also on Flemming’s recent Immortal Flight of the 80s. This really, really makes me happy.

This is awesome. A group of guys (Doug Wilson, Brandon Goodwin and Jess Heugel) made a documentary about the photo lettering machine used in the 50s-70s, to be outdated by the advent of desktop publishing and computers. Site here. Premieres in SF Tuesday, February 21, 2012 – 7:00 PM @ Typekit San Francisco: 2601 Mission [...]

Sad but true, the Bay Area record label famous for bands like Operation Ivy, Rancid and Green Day is shutting its doors. There’s a nice radio interview with the founders Chris Appelgren and Larry Livermore on KQED’s morning show with Michael Krasny. I got such a kick out of Krasny talking about punk rock because [...]

Great Flickr photo set by Steven Siegel, documenting New York before it was, well, what it is today (insert own opinion)… Via Kottke.

Wow, from 1981. Just heard this on Intergalactic FM. Could not find other info on the internets, but this is great.

Couldn’t resist posting this. Italo flanger fart madness with a screaming lion or guy in pain? Great track nonetheless.

Cold wave meets Italo. Can’t get enough of this track. Love, love the lyrics, “…everyone is looking for a new direction, some people you know are running the nation…” From Casionova’s Dance Around the Galaxi Mix. Get it on Soundcloud , bangin’.

Great retro media probe featuring Herb Lubalin into the evolution and creative woes of attempting to design a brand identity, in this case for PBS. I love the famous last words in the start of this film, “Designers cherish the time they spend alone, it’s you, your pen and paper. No limits.” Watch this film [...]

Absolute full-on rocking Italo mix from Flemming Dalum. Lots of Italo hits and precision mixing. This is such a great intro to Italo Disco if you don’t really know much about it. I’d consider this an essential, must have mix for any enthusiast. I’d have a hard time believing there’s not a track everyone can [...]
